Pickup trucks feature their own body styles, as they combine features of a truck with benefits of a passenger vehicle. Types of truck cabs depend pretty much on the number of doors and seats placement in the vehicle.
Good to know, that pickup truck body styles may differ from a carmaker to carmaker. In other words, the same type of cab produced by different car brands can be called in a different way. Many truck parts and accessories will fit specific cab type, so it is crucial to know, what is the cab type of your truck.

Regular Cab
Example of Ford F-150 Extended Cab
A regular cab has two doors and one row of seats. It is usually the cheapest truck cab, and it’s usually found on work trucks (trucks used primarily to get workers and their stuff to their job sites, not typically for suburban commutes).
Most automakers make it easy on customers by calling a regular cab truck “Regular Cab” in their lineup; the exception is Nissan, which markets this body style as a Single Cab.
The one row of seats offered by base regular-cab trucks is typically a bench, split 40/20/40. A regular cab can often be upgraded to bucket seats, leather upholstery or trimming, 10-way power adjustability and even heated seats.
Extended Cab
Example of Ford F-150 With Extended Cab
Extended cab pickup trucks have two rows of seats but only one set of regular doors. The front doors are full-sized. Most extended cab trucks have small, rear-hinged doors to make it easier for passengers to get into the back seats, while others don’t, so you have to fold the front seats forward to climb into the back.
The back seats make the extended cab more versatile than a regular cab truck since they often have under-seat storage, or the rear seats can be flipped up for more room. Alternatively, buyers can opt out of the rear seats for maximum in-cabin cargo space.
Beware, though The rear seats in extended cab pickups are small.
Double Cab
Example of Chevy Silverado With Double Cab
Double cab trucks are bigger than extended cab trucks but smaller than crew cab trucks. They have four regular doors and two rows of seats, like a crew cab truck, but the rear doors and seats are smaller, like an extended cab truck.
Double-cab trucks can be equipped with either five- or six-seat interior layouts, with a rear bench seat that tends to be small. The 2020 Ram 1500 Quad Cab, for example, has 35.6 inches of legroom. That’s less than most compact cars.
Crew Cab
Example of Ford F-150 With Crew Cab
A crew cab is the pickup truck body type with the most passenger space in the rear seats. Crew cab trucks have two full-size rows of seats and four full-size doors. In many ways, they’re like a full-size SUV with a bed on the back.
In full-size trucks, rear-seat dimensions actually exceed those in full-size sedans. For instance, the 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew supplies 43.6 inches of legroom for passengers in the back row.
Comparing SuperCrew and SuperCab body styles in the F-150, the F-150 SuperCrew has an extra 10.1 inches of back-seat legroom.
